Scream!: Unused Logo, Banners, etc.

Related to the Scream! posts on The 7th and Last blog.
I mocked up quite a few variations of the Scream! logo for posts on The 7th and Last blog. The images weren't used, in the end — at time of writing, anyhow — but there's no reason to leave them collecting virtual cobwebs in a folder, alongside the hundreds of other unused things from dozens of other posts. It's a wonderfully nostalgic logo. Maybe they'll be of use to someone.

Overkill Comics (Mockups)

Overkill Comics - FAKE

Is it time for some more FAKE comics? I feel it is.

The options are as numerous as there are artists/bands to choose from, but it works best when there's an associated theme or mascot, as there is with Overkill.

The skull with wings creature made its first appearance on album number three, titled Under the Influence (1988), which, incidentally, was the first Overkill album that I ever owned and is largely responsible for the love of that decade's Thrash music that I still have today.

Named Chaly, the skull-bat has been the cover star of most of their subsequent studio albums. At time of writing that's a 'holy-shit-impressive' nineteen more - and that's not counting Live stuff, EPs, or Compilations, which would add another nine or ten to the tally.

Overkill are prolific and, with very few exceptions, are still producing albums that put their peers to shame - newcomers and old duffers alike. Yes, that absolutely includes Metallica and Megadeth. [1]

ABANDONED POST: The Amityville Movies (1979-96)

The Amityville Movies (1979-96)
Dirs. Various

Do the Amityville movies deserve a post? Absolutely not, they're mostly rubbish, horror shite, cliché, garbage, but I did it anyhow because they were already written (for a previous blog), which meant most of the work was simply copy/paste. It's Friday. It's pissing rain outside. And I wanted an easy post.

01. The Amityville Horror (1979), Dir. Stuart Rosenberg, which was reportedly based on true events, is the first of many not-very-good entries in the haunted house franchise.

Newly-weds Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and a long-lost Gibb brother (James Brolin) occupy 112 Ocean Avenue, a house in which a vicious murder spree once occurred. Before long, their happy life develops a homicidal slant.

Scream! Comic Back Page Poster (1984)

Scream! Comic Back Page Poster (1984)
Related to the Scream! posts on The 7th and Last.

I wanted to make a post collecting the cover art of all fifteen issues of UK comic Scream!, but my own copies aren't in good order and I can't find good quality online scans of the issues I need.

However, I did find individual scans of the six-part poster that required a reader to cut off the back page of six issues in order to assemble.

That's part of the reason my own copies aren't usable. I cut them. I was young at the time. But it looked great and was on the wall for years!

Youthful folly aside, I did my best to piece the digital files together. It's far from perfect, with lines that don't meet and colours that don't match, but the original cheap paper version was the same, so it kind of adds to the nostalgia.

The image to the right is just a preview. A larger version (in better quality) is below the cut.

HAMMER: UK Stamps (2008)

HAMMER Stamps - Royal Mail (UK)

In 2008 Royal Mail released a trio of postage stamps celebrating the Carry On films. Not being a philatelist or a Carry On fan meant I didn't care. However, more importantly, alongside Cleo and friends they released a trio celebrating HAMMER Films. Those I did care about. I bought the set.
Note: the banner directly above is just a preview. You can find larger images below the cut.
