Overkill Comics - FAKE
The options are as numerous as there are artists/bands to choose from, but it works best when there's an associated theme or mascot, as there is with Overkill.
The skull with wings creature made its first appearance on album number three, titled Under the Influence (1988), which, incidentally, was the first Overkill album that I ever owned and is largely responsible for the love of that decade's Thrash music that I still have today.
Named Chaly, the skull-bat has been the cover star of most of their subsequent studio albums. At time of writing that's a 'holy-shit-impressive' nineteen more - and that's not counting Live stuff, EPs, or Compilations, which would add another nine or ten to the tally.
Overkill are prolific and, with very few exceptions, are still producing albums that put their peers to shame - newcomers and old duffers alike. Yes, that absolutely includes Metallica and Megadeth. [1]
As to the actual content of an Overkill-themed comic... I've no idea. It would probably be in the horror genre, but I don't think Chaly would make an interesting antagonist for very long, so he/she/it should probably stay in the background as some kind of malevolent influencer. So an anthology format, then, in which Chaly was the only — or certainty most used — recurring character. Or maybe something akin to the Millennium Era of Godzilla (2000-04), in that each new story is a standalone sequel to a single original; i.e., Issue 01. For that to happen, though, the first issue would need to be damn good with as much wiggle room for reinterpretation as possible, across many and varied disciplines. A better writer than I could work out the details.
As always, Lightbox is fine, but open each image in a new tab to see the FULL size.
[1] Not counting the C-Overkill (1999) album, which was mostly awful. I will speak of it no more. But while I'm on the subject of covers, their version of Twisted Sister's Under the Blade on the Twisted Forever (2001) compilation was pretty good.
