King Kong Board Game (1976)

King Kong Board Game (1976)

I bought the game from a jumble sale sometime in the 80s. It's not much fun to play, but it's an interesting piece of vintage tat that I'm getting rid of, now preserved for posterity. The copyright info + box art show it to be related to the De Laurentiis Movie (1976–86) directed by John Guillermin. You can find a review of that on my main blog HERE.

OBJECTIVE: to be the first player to complete five (5) attack missions on King Kong before he climbs to the top of the World Trade Center.  OR... To be the first player to complete one (1) attack mission and the Special Mission (rescue the girl in Kong's right hand).

CONTENTS: Gameboard; Tracks; Levelling Buttons; Slide; King Kong Figure and Ring; Spinner Card; Post; King Kong Pointer; Attack Team (playing pieces); Labels; Cards.

BOX LID + ONE SIDE:

The Box Lid measures 47 x 24 x 3.5 cm approx. The Game Board measures 81 x 23 cm when unfolded; it folds in half, otherwise it wouldn't fit in the box. [1]

GAME BOARD | KING KONG FIGURE | SPINNER | MEN
Attack Team: Ron, Saul, Forge, and Jingo?

CARDS:
Cards are 3.5 x 4 cm approx. I don't know if I've a complete set or if there's some missing. Some have multiple instances. The SPARE is real. The BLANK was for my use only. In the order shown (L-R): 4, 2, 2, 3, 3 | 2, 2, 6, 3, 1 | 1, 4, 3, 0, Red Card is the back of ALL Cards.

INSTRUCTIONS:
The Instructions are on a paper sheet (29 x 43.5 cm approx) printed on both sides. Each side has three panels. It folds into thirds along its vertical length like a Chinese Restaurant Menu.

When folded correctly, the title page 'The story of King Kong' that appears on the right side of my first image will become the fist page of your booklet. The panel on the far right of my second image will become the back page. It'll make sense when you do the folds.

Print a DOUBLE-SIDED page. Fold along the PINK LINES so that the PURPLE ARROWS rest atop one another. Job done.

[1] All pics are my own except the Lid, which I sourced online (from an expired eBay auction) because my camera lens wasn't able to photograph it without distortion. The Game Board was too big, too, but I pieced it together from multiple small scanner pics.
