KERRANG!: Ladykillers A-Z (1989)

A four-part pull-out supplement that came with KERRANG! magazine issues #237-240.

It's a fairly standard list of contemporary female artists in the Rock + Metal genre, arranged as an A-Z — from (Lee) Aaron to Zed Yago — with a small passage of text accompanying each one.

As for titling, I don't know if it's a fundamental misunderstanding of the term lady-killer or an attempt to say that the names included within are 'killer' examples of women in the genre. It's a KERRANG! supplement, so who knows? It wasn't known for journalistic competence.

But after reading, the next time you're in a pub-quiz that asks for 'Ten Female Rock Artists' from the late 80s, you'll have a better chance of taking those points. FTFW. (Mine's a whisky, btw.)

I scanned all 52 pages and assembled them into a CBR file. If you're not familiar with .cbr, it's an ebook format typically associated with digital comicbooks + magazines. They can usually convert to PDF pretty easily, if you prefer that. There are free online convertors for doing that. [1]

My scanner is a run-of-the-mill cheapo model, so colours and contrasts can be inconsistent from one page to the next. I did some minor edits and edge fixes if I noticed anything smudgy, but I don't have time to colour correct to a high standard. In the end I added a quick Fade Correction filter to each page to see how it would look. It made the paper look whiter, but compromised the image in other ways. I've uploaded both because choice is good. It is what it is, as they say. It's enough for me that it's something rescued from relative obscurity.

[1] If you change the file extension from .cbz to .zip and then unzip the resulting file you'll be able to make edits to the images yourself. But be aware they're in lossy jpeg quality already, so, unless you resave in a lossless format, any additional edits will degrade the image further. To get it back to a .cbz file, do the opposite of what you did previously (i.e., zip it, then change to .cbz).

A full list of bands / artists included with links to their Discogs page, if one exists. Some names have multiple entries, but I think I got the correct one each time. I know it's kinda hard to read, but it's easy compared to how fucking hard it was to assemble.
